Umang Bhattacharyya works with photographs and video to explore narration, representation and the experience of image and sound making itself. 

He lives in New Delhi; and juggles roles as an art practitioner, design consultant, photographer and filmmaker.  

He is the creative director at the New Delhi-based design firm Design Workshop and has studied visual communication and film at the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology.

Exhibited photography exhibit ‘Thrice removed’ in India in 2003 following an artist-in-residence grant from the Alliance Française in Paris 

Made Curious Green, (with Ramyah Gowrishankar) screened at Experimenta 2007, Bangalore (winner of Special Category Award at the 2007 Multi Cultural Film Academy festival in Chennai)

Shot Zulmat, screened at the Cannes young film makers workshop in 2004

Directed, shot and edited Suryamani, screened at the VATAVARAN Film Festival 2007, Colorado Environmental Film Festival, MIFF (Mumbai international film festival) 2008 and Green Film Festival in Seoul (GFFIS) 2008.

Co-developed,  interactive exhibition showcased at Ars Electronica, Linz, in 2004 

Work and education

As creative director at Design Workshop, a design and brand identity firm in New Delhi, he has worked on developing brands for ITC Hotels, India Art Fair and a range of other organizations

Graduated from Srishti School of Art Design and Technology (Bangalore), 2000- 2005 with a diploma in communication design

Was honorary exchange student at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2004
